Faith Walk

Have you ever taken a Faith Walk?  I define it as stepping out or in some cases stepping up to face a situation, not knowing what the outcome may be, but bravely going there.  In some cases it could be a challenge to a request to work when you you know your place is with your child on the first day of school.  You realize in these difficult financial times, with threats of unemployment laying heavily over your head, to stand up could mean a layoff.  But you decide to go boldly toward the best for your family.  Support for your child for a part of life that doesn’t get a second take.  That could be a Faith Walk for you today.

Have you ever had choices of a, b, and c and just said, “Okay God, help me decide which one You think I should have….which path You think I should take?”  That’s a Faith Walk.  And especially when you have no idea what  outcome will follow in the steps ahead.  But Crystal Lewis sings a song,  “Beauty for Ashes”  in which she says, God gives us…beauty for ashes, strength for fear, gladness for mourning and peace for despair.  Within 24 hours of  purchasing that song, listening to the words and embracing the meaning…taking a Faith Walk, believing that God gives us those gifts, I had the best birthday ever! (I know I said that last year, but this year really was the best ever).  In fact it was the best birthday week ever!  I opened my morning meditation book and what do you think I saw?  A story about beauty for ashes and the Bible reference.  Before that day, I confess I had never heard the phrase.  Now the song is part of my “morning music to jog by”.  ‘For me, it’s a reminder that every day is a Faith Walk.  I used to think it was just during the rough times and the best times.  But it’s there for the mediocre times too.  It’s a great way to stay centered and be reminded of what’s really important.  Because when you walk, and not run….when you move gently and listen frequently, rather than move so fast and talk so fast you don’t even know who’s listening or whether what you are saying even matters.  Make each word matter.  Step back.  Slow down.  Pay attention.  Take a Faith Walk.  Try it.  You might like it, one day at a time.
